Epiphany

The Taken

Blame it on the Kellys

Last time on Epiphany… The man known as Markus Ace had snuck back onboard Epiphany with several comrades. Having bested the men in the cargo bay, Quin felt the ship begin to take off. Rushing to the crew deck, Quin discovered Dax unconscious and bleeding in the engine room and Ace locked in the cockpit. Stuffing some engine rags into Dax’s wounds, Quin attempted to get her monkey to crawl through the atmo system into the cockpit to open the door! Instead, the monkey turned around and came out of the vent in the adjacent room.

Rather than spanking the monkey, Quin decided it was time to try waking up Dax. She succeeded in bringing him ‘round. Rather than see his beloved Epiphany fall into the hands of ne’er-do-wells, Dax decided to try disabling her in such a way as to drop her down gentle like. While trying to manipulate the still-running engine, the hydraulic converter became bent. Thankfully, Ace was a competent pilot and managed to put her down (heavily) right where he meant to! In the crash, Dax was again knocked unconscious, and Quin was rapidly surrounded by a group of armed men.

In the meantime, Adam was left in New Connaught watching “his” ship speed off towards the horizon. Now marooned with a very confused hospital representative riding along on the mule, Adam had very little choice but to continue on into the hospital. Upon arrival and unloading the goods, a Chinese man came out of loading area demanding the remaining goods. Realizing that Adam wasn’t going anywhere without his ship, the man allowed Adam some more time to complete the delivery. He also mentioned the possibility that Adam had been the victim of a gang masquerading as the semi-legendary “Kelly Gang”.

To find his ship, Adam promptly walked to the village square and shouted, “Does anybody know about the Kelly Gang!?” Most of the folks in the square suddenly seemed to have somewhere to go in a hurry. He did notice one man showed no fear of this name. In the dress of a Shepherd, the man has the intimidatin’ manner and scarred face of someone… who… wasn’t a Shepherd.

Going simply by “Preacher”, the man said he knew where the Kelly Gang was supposedly based. Guiding Adam to the town of Sean Quanton Abbey, the pair crashed a poker game. With the help of the frightening countenance of Preacher, Adam got a rough estimate of where the Kelly Farm is located. Approaching the farm from the south, Preacher noticed some human noises on the ridge. The pair had walked in to a pair of advance guards who were expecting their arrival. What ensued was a bloodbath, with Preacher spraying brains across the plain in front of the farmhouse.

While the (largely one-sided) firefight was going on, Dax attempted to escape only to come out to the scene of carnage. A final shot from a sniper put Dax down, before Preacher made his newlywed wife a widow. They managed to get Dax to the sawbones of Sean Quanton Abbey, who successfully saved his life by heroically stopping his artery from bleeding out.

So that’s how it is: stranded on Three Hills, a whole mess of dead Kellys, and the medicine still not fully delivered.
